03/27/25 Day 2 in Berlin started with a stop at a local café, where we had coffee and pastries. Then off to our bike tour which included the historic Checkpoint Charlie, a poignant reminder of the Cold War era, where the division between East and West Berlin was starkly marked. As we pedaled through the city, we felt the echoes of history that shaped this remarkable metropolis.
Our guide shared intriguing stories and dramatic events that unfolded here, offering us a deeper understanding of Berlin's past.
Continuing our journey, we cycled to the Berlin Wall Trail, viewing a piece of the once formidable barrier that divided a city and its people.
Our tour ended at the Brandenburg Gate, an iconic symbol of peace and unity, standing proudly in the heart of the city. As we paused to admire its grandeur, we talked about how this landmark has witnessed the turning tides of history, from moments of division to joyous reunification.
Then a stop at a local restaurant for lunch. #berlinbiketour #TimelessGetawaysTravel #fattiretours #berlin
03/26/25 Well today didn’t turn out like we planned. I got a call while we were still in Dresden this morning letting me know our Pub Crawl had to be canceled. The reason? A public transportation strike. Luckily with some creative scheduling we did make it to Berlin. Here is a room snippet. And tomorrow’s bike tour is on but with no buses that’s a 30 minute walk. #berlin #timelessgetawaystravel

Rothenburg is a medieval gem, where every corner reveals a scene straight out of a storybook. As we stepped through the arched city gates, we were transported back in time, surrounded by the well-preserved architecture that has enchanted visitors for generations.
The Marktplatz is the heart of the town, where the vibrant market square is framed by colorful, gabled houses and the impressive Town Hall. We explored the narrow lanes, stumbling upon charming boutiques and traditional bakeries offering delicious treats like schneeballen, a local pastry that is as delightful to taste as it is to behold. #rothenburg #TimelessGetawaysTravel
03/23/25 We started our day in Nuremberg doing an audio tour - highly recommend - we covered all the major sites, stopped for Starbucks, and stopped for lunch having Nuremberg bratwurst & beer.
From there we took the train to Bamberg a city where history and charm intertwine seamlessly. The entire town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, boasting stunning medieval architecture and a picturesque setting on seven hills, reminiscent of Rome. As we wandered through its narrow, winding streets, we were captivated by the beautifully preserved buildings that tell tales of centuries past.
One of Bamberg's most iconic landmarks is its magnificent cathedral, a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture. Inside, we found exquisite sculptures and the tomb of Pope Clement II, inviting us to delve deeper into the city's rich ecclesiastical history.
But Bamberg's appeal doesn't end there. The city is also renowned for its unique smoked beer, or "Rauchbier," a specialty that reflects Bamberg's proud brewing tradition. We made sure to visit one of the local breweries, Schlenkerla, to sample this distinctive brew, savoring its rich, smoky flavor.

03/18/25 Today we go to Dachau for a tour of the old concentration camp. This will be a very emotional day for us. The history here is profound and somber, reminding us of the darkest chapters in human history. The weight of the stories will hang in the air, each corner of the camp a silent witness to the pain and suffering endured by countless individuals.
The tour will be a humbling experience, offering a poignant insight into the atrocities committed during World War II. Our guide will share stories of survival and resilience, honoring the memory of those who suffered here. The barracks, the memorials, and the museum all serve as powerful reminders of the importance of remembering this history to ensure such horrors are never repeated.
Throughout the day, we plan to reflect deeply on the lessons of the past and the enduring strength of the human spirit. It is a day of solemn reflection, but also a call to action for all of us to stand against hatred and discrimination in all its forms.
I expect that when we leave Dachau, we will carry a renewed commitment to promoting peace and understanding, cherishing the freedoms we often take for granted. This visit, though heavy with emotion, will enrich our journey with a profound sense of purpose and empathy. 🕊️

03/17/25 We visited 3 different castles today - Linderhof Hohenschwagau and Neuschwanstein.
Linderhof Palace: Linderhof Palace is the smallest of the three palaces built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria and the only one which was actually completed during his lifetime. The palace is located in southwest Bavaria near the village of Ettal. It was inspired by the palace and gardens of Versailles and features beautiful formal gardens. The Hall of Mirrors is one of the most stunning spaces in the palace, used by the king as a drawing-room. The palace was completed in 1880 and designed by Carl von Effner.
Hohenschwangau Castle: Hohenschwangau Castle was the childhood residence of King Ludwig II of Bavaria. It is located in the German village of Hohenschwangau near the town of Füssen. The castle was built by King Maximilian II of Bavaria and features splendid frescoes, fine furniture, and unique ornaments. The castle sits on top of a hill surrounded by the Alps and the Hohenschwangau Village. The interior walls and ceilings depict scenes from German folklore and medieval legends.
Neuschwanstein Castle: Neuschwanstein Castle is a 19th-century palace located on a rugged hill in the foothills of the Alps in southern Germany very near to Hohenschwangau. It was commissioned by King Ludwig II of Bavaria and inspired by fairy tales. The castle was never completed during Ludwig II's lifetime, and he only lived there for a total of six months. The castle features towers, turrets, frescoes, and a throne hall. It is equipped with modern technological comforts such as running water, flush toilets, and central heating. #Neuschwanstein #Bavaria #Timelessgetwaystravel

October 2024 Curacao
We had the pleasure of staying at a Sandals all-inclusive adults-only resort in Curacao. It was definitely an experience to treasure. From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in luxury and relaxation, and every detail was meticulously taken care of.
One of the first things we did was explore the pools. We spent our mornings lounging by the infinity pool, which had breathtaking views of the ocean. The swim-up bars were a fantastic touch, allowing us to enjoy refreshing cocktails without ever leaving the water. In the afternoons, we opted for the quieter, more secluded spot where we could unwind with a good book.
The beach was small but inviting. The sand was powdery white, and the water was that mesmerizing shade of turquoise. We loved walking along the shore, feeling the gentle waves lap at our feet. The beachside service was impeccable; we could order our favorite drinks and snacks right from our lounge chairs. It was the perfect place to relax and soak up the sun.
As avid snorkelers, we were thrilled with the underwater adventures available. The coral reefs were vibrant and teeming with marine life. We spent hours exploring the reefs, marveling at the colorful fish and intricate coral formations. For Jerry, who loves scuba diving, the resort offered a variety of dive sites. From shallow reefs to deeper dives where sea turtles could be spotted, there was always something new and exciting to discover.
Our room was in the moderately priced range. It was spacious, nicely decorated, and equipped with all the modern amenities we could ask for. The plush bedding ensured a restful night's sleep, and we loved waking up to the stunning ocean views from our private balcony.
The weather in October was perfect. Warm temperatures and plenty of sunshine made it ideal for outdoor activities and beach time. The tropical climate meant that we could enjoy the beautiful surroundings without worrying about rain or chilly weather.
The dining options at the resort were exceptional. With a variety of restaurants offering cuisines from around the world, every meal was a culinary adventure. We particularly enjoyed the sushi and were thrilled with the cook your own hibachi option.
While I think Turks & Caicos will always be our favorite resort, this stay in Curacao was very relaxing. It really was the perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and luxury. With world-class amenities, stunning natural surroundings, and endless activities, it was the ideal destination for a romantic getaway or a fun-filled vacation with friends.

April/May 2024 - The Adventure Down Under
We took a trip to Australia so that we could be there when Zac completed his first Iron Man. Why Australia? Well, that was the only place that had an Iron Man on his birthday and there was no way we were going to miss out on a chance to go.
There were a lot of things to work out because an Iron Man is no small endeavor. It's a swim, bike, and run adventure like no other. We would need to be in Port MacQuarie for a majority of this trip to give Zac all the planning and setup time needed.
But its Australia! Three things were on the list as must do. See koalas, scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef and tour the Sydney Opera House.
Koalas lucky enough were right there in Port MacQuarie. There was a sanctuary along with a zoo. We got to see so many it was incredible. They were so close and didn't have a care in the world.
Scuba diving has so many options on the GBR. We opted for a 3 day live-aboard. I can't even explain the sheer joy of getting in the water. I also have to be honest that as a snorkeler, I was so unprepared, lol. We aren't talking about calm water; we are talking big waves. And yes, all the sea life including jellyfish and sharks. I did manage to get stung but at least I wasn't shark bait. lol. The big sharks I saw were at night when all the lights on the boat attracted so many fish. The best part was the sea turtles. It is so awe inspiring to see a sea turtle.
Of course, if you are familiar with Australia, you will know that Port MacQuarie is about a 4-hour drive from Sydney where we came into country. That drive was quite the experience since they drive on the left and the driver's side is on the right. What?! So Port MacQuarie was our home base but Cairns where we caught our boat to the GBR is about a 24-hour drive from Port MacQuarie. That meant taking an in-country flight back and forth on Quantas which is quite the awesome airline.
Port MacQuarie was such a great town. Right on the ocean. The view was incredible from the lighthouse point to the sea wall. It set a great backdrop for Zac's race. He rocked it of course.
Even though we only had a day in Sydney I managed to find a hostel with a great view of the Opera House, we did the Opera house tour, and we ate dinner al fresco there.
Read about our adventure stateside before we boarded that flight to Sydney down below.

April 2024 - Our 24-Hour Adventure in San Francisco: Turning Misfortune into an Unforgettable Experience
Our journey to Australia took an unexpected turn when we missed our connecting flight out of San Francisco. What could have been a frustrating setback turned into an incredible 24-hour adventure in the City by the Bay. Here's how we made the most of our impromptu stay.
After realizing we wouldn't be catching our flight, we quickly found a hotel at midnight. Despite the late hour, we were determined to make the best of our situation. A good night's sleep was essential, as we had a full day of exploring ahead of us.
We started our day early, eager to see as much of San Francisco as possible. Our first stop was the park by the Golden Gate Bridge. The sight of the iconic bridge shrouded in morning mist was breathtaking. We took a leisurely stroll through the park, snapping photos and soaking in the stunning views.
Next, we embarked on a boat ride that took us under the Golden Gate Bridge and right by Alcatraz Island. The perspective from the water was incredible, offering unique views of these famous landmarks. The boat ride was both relaxing and exhilarating, giving us a chance to see the city from a different angle.
After our boat ride, we walked along the waterfront to Pier 39. The lively atmosphere and bustling shops were a delight to explore. One of the highlights was seeing the famous sea lions lounging on the docks. Their playful antics and loud barks brought smiles to our faces.
No visit to San Francisco is complete without riding a cable car. We hopped on one and enjoyed the ride through the city's hilly streets. The experience was both nostalgic and thrilling, offering a glimpse into San Francisco's rich history and charm.
Our final stop was Lombard Street, known for its steep, zigzagging turns. We rode down the famous street, marveling at the beautifully landscaped gardens and the unique architecture of the surrounding homes. It was the perfect way to cap off our whirlwind tour of the city.
As we headed back to the airport, we couldn't help but reflect on our unexpected adventure. What started as a missed flight turned into a day filled with exploration, discovery, and unforgettable memories. San Francisco's charm and beauty had captivated us, and we were grateful for the opportunity to experience it, even if just for a short time.
In the end, our misfortune turned into a blessing in disguise. We left San Francisco with smiles on our faces and stories to tell, ready to continue our journey to Australia with a newfound appreciation for the unexpected twists and turns of travel.
